Houston, TX – August 2, 2025 – A deadly crash in Midtown Houston claimed two lives after a high-speed pursuit ended in flames. According to investigators, deputies from the Harris County Precinct 7 Constable’s Office spotted a black Ford F-150 striking multiple vehicles in the area. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver, identified as 21-year-old Rene Hernandez, sped away, running several red lights and weaving dangerously through the streets. The chase came to a devastating end at the intersection of Smith and Elgin Streets when Hernandez ran a red light and T-boned a white Lexus traveling eastbound. The violent impact caused the Lexus to spin out of control, slam into a nearby building, and erupt into flames. Both occupants of the Lexus, later identified as two recent Florida A&M University graduates, were pronounced dead at the scene.
