Los Angeles, CA to San Diego, CA – A dramatic pursuit involving a stolen tow truck stretched from Echo Park in Los Angeles to the southbound I-805 in San Diego early Saturday morning.
The incident began at approximately 12:10 a.m. on February 2, 2025, when a male suspect stole a tow truck while the driver was attending to an AAA call to change a flat tire. The tow truck driver immediately began tracking the vehicle after it was taken. The suspect drove through various Los Angeles areas, including Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, before heading south toward San Diego with California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers in pursuit.
The CHP successfully spiked the tow truck’s tires twice during the chase. However, the suspect continued driving before eventually coming to a stop at the Market Street exit off southbound I-805 in San Diego. By the time the truck stopped, both front wheels had been destroyed.
The suspect surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody. Authorities have not released further details about the suspect’s identity or charges. The pursuit, which started just after midnight, ended peacefully despite the lengthy chase.
