The incident began around 11:58 p.m. on July 6 in the area of Belfort and Waltrip, where HPD officers were initially responding to a reported burglary at an apartment complex. A female victim was injured during the original burglary incident, though the extent of her injuries has not been disclosed. As officers arrived at the apartment on Belfort, the suspect fled on foot. He was encountered by an HPD Southeast Division sergeant, who was handling a separate call nearby that may have been related to the initial burglary.
