According to officials, the incident occurred at 5:04 a.m. in the 300 block of National City Boulevard.
The sergeant was traveling northbound when a pedestrian suddenly ran onto the roadway. To avoid striking the individual, the officer swerved and lost control of the patrol unit.
The vehicle collided with a parked BMW, severed an electrical junction box, and struck a building before coming to a stop.
The officer was shaken but uninjured, thanks to the deployment of airbags.
