San Diego, CA, June 17, 2025 – A man and woman were arrested early Tuesday morning after a chaotic scene unfolded on the southbound Interstate 5 just south of Dairy Mart Road, involving a car crash, a freeway disturbance, and a violent altercation with law enforcement. First responders arrived around 3:48 a.m. to find a vehicle off the side of the freeway and the male and female occupants erratically running back and forth in active traffic lanes. Due to the volatile situation, responders issued a “Stand Back for PD” directive.CHP officers arrived and found the female lying down on the freeway while the male suspect quickly became combative. As officers attempted to detain him, he began physically fighting them in the middle of the freeway, creating a dangerous situation for all involved. Additional CHP officers, San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies, and SDPD officers responded to assist. The man was eventually subdued after a continued struggle, during which a “Body Wrap” restraint was applied to gain control. Meanwhile, as firefighters provided medical attention to the female, she became aggressive and was also taken into custody.
