The victim has been identified as 66-year-old Greysi Olimpia Rivas of El Cajon. The accident occurred around 2:52 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the 8 Freeway, near College Avenue. Rivas, driving a Mini Cooper sedan, was traveling east when she collided head-on with a BMW SUV. Authorities believe the BMW was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes at the time of the crash. Paramedics arrived on the scene but were unable to save Rivas, who was pronounced dead from blunt force injuries. The cause of death was confirmed by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
