Universal City, CA – A tragic accident on the 101 Freeway early Saturday morning left one person dead and another injured after they exited their vehicle in the middle of the freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident occurred around 2:35 a.m. at the 101 Freeway near Lankershim Boulevard. Two individuals driving a green Dodge Charger stopped on the freeway and got out of their vehicle. A passing driver, unable to see them in time, struck both individuals.
One of the pedestrians was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The driver who hit them exited the freeway and stopped in a nearby Metro parking lot, fully cooperating with authorities.
While CHP officers were investigating the fatal crash, a secondary collision involving three vehicles occurred at the scene. A driver in a dark-colored Ford Mustang was arrested for possible DUI.
The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding both crashes.
