August 6, 2025 – Big Bear, CA, two firefighters sustained injuries while battling the rapidly spreading Gold Fire about one mile north of Baldwin Lake in the Holcomb Valley area near Big Bear. The first firefighter suffered a heat-related illness and was transported by ground ambulance after being treated by advanced life support medics. The second firefighter’s condition remains unknown, but an air rescue was urgently requested, and a helicopter was dispatched for immediate extraction. The blaze, which initially covered just one acre, has grown to 80 acres and continues to move toward a northern ridge. Despite its expansion, no structures are currently under threat. Multiple air resources, including additional tankers and Type 1 helicopters, have joined the effort alongside 10 engines, 2 crews, and 2 water tenders. The U.S. Forest Service is leading the firefighting operation with support from CAL FIRE San Bernardino/Inyo/Mono Unit. Crews are working intensely to complete hose lines while air units battle the fire from above
