San Diego, CASan Diego’s Clairemont neighborhood. – A 36-year-old man riding an electric bicycle was killed in a tragic hit-and-run collision early Saturday morning in San Diego’s Clairemont neighborhood.
The incident occurred around 1:28 a.m. on March 29, 2025, on westbound Balboa Avenue just west of the I-805. According to San Diego Police Department (SDPD), an ambulance crew traveling on Balboa Avenue came upon the victim lying in the roadway and immediately rendered aid.
Investigators determined the man had been riding westbound in the bike lane on the 6900 block of Balboa Avenue when, for unknown reasons, he veered left into the path of a gray or silver vehicle traveling in the number 2 lane. The vehicle struck the cyclist and then fled the scene without stopping.
The victim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
The westbound lanes of Balboa Avenue at the I-805 were shut down for several hours as SDPD’s Traffic Division processed the scene and launched an investigation. Detectives are actively searching for the driver and vehicle involved.
